2017: Moved to center for the 2017 season after two seasons as a backup on the defensive line. Entered the starting lineup for Game 2 of the 2017 season, making his first start at No. 5 Penn State. Started every game the rest of the season except Texas State, when he was injured. Former walk-on who earned a scholarship prior to the 2017 season.
2016: Played in two games in 2016 as a backup on the defensive line.
2015: Joined Georgia State in 2015.
2014: Played one season at Campbellsville (Ky.) University. Made 30 tackles, three sacks and two forced fumbles in 2014 at Campbellsville.
High School: Four-year letterwinner as a two-way lineman at Tucker High School in Georgia. Helped Tucker to state runner-up finish in Class AAAAA in 2013. Played in DeKalb County All-Star game.
Personal: Jamal Paxton is the son of Nathaniel and Hnede Paxton. Born Jan. 24, 1996. Older brother Nate played for the Panthers from 2012-15 and now works as a graduate assistant on the strength staff.
